Thanks to all of the players who came out to participate in the event!

We had 81 players, which pretty much put at capacity for the space that we had.

We had a few issues with how the points laid out for wins, and will be making some adjustments to the scoring and scenarios for the 2011 BSB event.  We welcome all good suggestions and constructive criticism.

Congratulations to out winners, there were some very close scores.

We want to give a big thanks to all of our sponsors: Games Workshop, Brookhurst Hobbies, Shogun Miniatures, Reaper Miniatures and the Stratigecon ORCCON.

In addition to the juicy loot that we had for our Overall, Sportsman, Painting and General placings, the overall, 2nd overall and 3rd overall (as alternate) get invitations to the GW Las Vegas GT happening in 2011.

Full results will be posted to the website within the next week.

Warhammer 40k:

Overall: Steve Sisk
2nd Overall: Toby Walker
3rd Overall: Dave Fay
Best Sportsman: Anthony Florez
Best Painted: Toby Walker
Best General: Brad Townsend

Warhammer Fantasy Battles:

Overall: Mike Mandzak
2nd Overall: Jeremy Smith
3rd Overall: Bob Felix
Best Sportsman: Bob Felix
Best Painted: Scott Walker
Best General: Touradj Mansouri

In a massive topsy-turny Old World altering chain of events...Ogre Kingdoms take TWO of the top spots (overall and best painted), including beating Vampires!

War of the Ring:

Overall: Eric Roof
2nd Overall: Steve Diaz
3rd Overall: Jeff Silva

Looking forward to seeing you all next year, where our event will be on Feb 19th & 20th....YAY not on Valentine's Day!

Keep in touch with us on the Pacific Marauders forums www.pacificmarauders.com, on the Broadside Bash website www.broadsidebash.com and on the Broadside Bash GT mailing list http://groups.google.com/group/broadside-bash-gt?hl=en

Something I forgot to mention in my Battle Report, I really liked the Battlepoints for losses being a flat number (Cool.  I didn't even think about it until I heard someone at a neighboring table mention it and comment that it would allow people to stay competitive.  I think that's a good thing, you never want to be eliminated from competition on the first game of the first day.  So keep that!

Flat number?  What do you mean by that?

Wins scored at 18, 15, & 13 for Massacre, Major and Minor...but all losses scored an 8.

Just a note:

THANK YOU GUYS!!!

Good Tournament, fun scenarios, and great prize support! I had 5 very fun games, and faced 4 new players, so for me it was definitely worth the trip!

Wow, that was really a fun tournament. I didnt place or win anything but I did have 4 amazing games that me and my oppononents had blast in...too bad we have to wait a whole year for another. You guys should run something else towards the end of the year? Thanks again and see you around!

Yeah I had a great time, too.

If anyone is looking for another tournament fix, check out the SoCal Slaughter. They have a fantasy and 40K tournament, it is also a GT and 5 game, 2 day format. Winner of each system gets an invite to Vegas GT.

Thanks again for the great even, fellas!

will the scores from the BSB be posted to RankingsHQ?

http://www.rankingshq.com/

It's been mentioned on Bad Dice and Podhammer, they're trying to create a world wide ranking system, it would be cool if the Broadside Bash was the first US tournament

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/279207.page

I want to thank all the PacMads for running a great event!

I Loved:
Missions (All fun, the d3 on lady luck was challenging)
Tables (The terrain kicked ass!)
Opponents (5 Awesome games, played 4 new people and had a blast)
Venue (Nice rooms, easy to get too)

Disliked:
Battle point break down and how little Battle points are worth.

On the BSB website this was advertised: http://www.broadsidebash.com/rules.php

Battle Scoring
The battle score is worth up to a total of 100 points.
After each battle players will count up their victory points unless the scenario states no VPs will be used in which case consult the scenario for the results. VPs are calculated by subtracting the lower score from the higher and compare the result to the following table:

Victory Points Result Battle Points:

Margin of   Victory    Winner    Loser
Massacre                         17             3
Major Victory               14             5
Minor Victory                12    8
Draw                              9          9

Each scenario will have up to a possible three bonus battle points awarded on top of the above score based on meeting scenario objectives.

During the first mission the points system was changed to what is listed below

Margin of   Victory    Winner    Loser
Massacre                         18             8
Major Victory               15             8
Minor Victory               13      8
Draw                             12          12

and no bonus battle points.....

I actually liked the fixed 8 points for a loss, with a heavy soft score tournament this makes sense.

What doesn't make sense is the difference between a Tie and a Minor Victory.  A tie should be worth 10.

I ended up with 2 Massacres, 1 Major and 2 Minors for a total of 77

Bradd Townsend (Best General)  gets 3 Massacres and 2 draws for a 78...

if a tie was worth 10 he would have gotten a 74, but it is what it is...

I think Toby qualified for best general and best painted, he tied with Steve for overall.  The question is which is more prestigious, best painted or general?

On the 40k side of things we could only get a max of 90 Battle points and out of the max 239 points that means battle points are only worth 37.6%. http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Image:Broadside_Bash_Results

You can see that I have a high Sportsmanship, the best Comp, third in Battle Points and my painting is the only thing i need to work on and i accept that.

I know the goal of the event is to promote a more well rounded hobby and i agree that soft scores should have a heavy weight but not a 62%/38% split.  I think a 50/50 split gets the job done. (which would have put me in 2nd)

I'm going to stop here before i started breaking down the percentages more because I really did have a great time at the BSB.

Again thank you for running a great event.

Keep the feedback coming!  We really appreciate it.

The scoring was an issue...5th ed kind of threw us for a loop.  And that sort of screwed up a few plans that we had.  We never really were able to get the scenarios back into the place we wanted them.

So initially we dropped back to our win/loss/draw system, which was on the score cards...but then had all the scenarios fixed back to the Massacre, Major, Minor, Loss, Draw and the scores were posted the 1st game of the 1st day.  So while it did not score the way we wanted it to, everyone scored as posted and we adjusted any scores that people made mistakes one.

With regards to the soft scores...well this is a HOBBY event, and the soft scores will rule.  However, we do realize that they were a bit too much, so we are going to make some adjustments to bring BPs up a bit in the scheme.

Great job running this thing guys!  I had fun and know others did too.  Change of venue for next year sounds good if it means closer parking, more room and higher tables! (my back is jacked).

I would like to state for the record that I don't normally look like I do as in the photo above. Why on earth I look half asleep, in the middle of a blink, or maybe beaten and torn... is beyond me and the photographer should be fired for not mentioning anything or re-taking the photo. Was it the realisation that I won overall, but it was just War of the Rings afterall? I don't know, but shame on me and Wade for a bad photo.

I'm going to send in a professional head shot that is to be used for all future BsB events. I'll keep you posted.

Looked like it was a great event. I wish I could have made it. Although the room looks smaller then it did back in 2008 or is it just me? No best army this year? I wondered who could beat out the cool beastman army from the first BSB.
