Two squads left to go and me Dark Angels (DA) are complete - two weeks at my pace Wink.  This is an actual DA army with only 1 Deathwing squad, 2 Ravenwing, and the rest of the army is green.  I've also made sure to keep the DA fondness for plasma and fielded 3 Plasma Cannons (no complaints from me with the 5th ed. template rules) Cheesy.

I've porcelain-regular researched the codex, Index, googled and wiki'd the background fluff and still don't know.

Why do the Dark Angels love Plasma so much?

- Is it simply because the OOP DA Troop box had a Plasma Cannon?
- Is there some Rogue Trader plasma cannon model that was first associated with the DA?
- Is there a White Dwarf with an obscure line that says "Dark Angels enjoy getting HOT - wink, wink"?
- Did the poet Lionel Johnson write a ode to plasma that began "Plasma, was thou made by a Chinese sweat-shop and born with a wicked need to kill thy user?"?

So far google only reveals that everyone knows the DA love plaz, but not why.  The new Codex provides no reason to do it.  The Codex Marines have the same access to Plasma.  Who wants to show off his/her knowledge of all things 40k?

Thanks,

J Wink

You do not need to know the reason.

This isn't the fluff you're looking for.

You can go about your business.

Move along.

Actually it has more to do with the plasma itself.

You see plasma is a hot gooey substance, not really solid, liquid or gas.  It is ejected by force from the head of the "cannon"...well you can see where this is going and why Space Marines, especially the DA, are so partial to it.

Hehehe

Guess we should start referring to the blast-template as a splooge-template. Shocked

Joel and I have been playtesting a lot of our campaign missions to update them for 5th edition.  Now I understand why he's bothered when my army fires off their cannons and drop splooge-templates all over his units. Roll Eyes

Come on, tell the truth...  Joel races headlong into your big cannon, hoping to get hit by that template, huh?  Kiss

Nothin' but love for ya, Joel!  (see what happens when you play porn-hording Dark Eldar and Tau?).  You are marked for life, my friend...

But back to the original questions...  Why the Dark Angels?  Why are they so fixated on splooge templates?  Something in their culture?  Their home planet?  What kind of society did Lion El Johnson create?  And look at his name!  JOHNSON!!!

I think I solved it... Remember all those Big Johnson T-shirts?  Here's a new one- Big Johnson Plasma Cannons.  (insert crude remark here)

So glad the subject is Dark Angels, and not Salamanders and their obsession with Flamers.   Evil

Seriously.

Greg caught me. Embarrassed

I'll admit it.  My cannons are a bit bigger than the average Astartes. Wink

Ooh!  That thing is EXTRA LONG!  Shocked

Wow, did you have to take pills or get implants to have an extra large cannon like that?  I'm morbidly curious to see how much plasma shoots out of that monster.  Let loose the Big Johnson!
