Hey Fellas,

I want to play some more Fantasy and I saw that GE has a Sunday morning league. Do you guys play in it? If so, what all is involved with signing up? Any house rules to be aware of, etc.

Thanks guys.

Talk to Bob.  He'll give you the low down on the league.

Yes, expect additional rules.  The intent of the league has been to run a restricted format, and it looks like this go around is going to get back to those roots.

The format for the new league should be getting posted very soon.

Thanks for the reply.

What do you mean by restricted format? I play Wood Elves, and while I am an experienced Wargamer, I am not a very experienced square baser. Do you mean you use the tier system I have read about?

Everyone may be restricted on the number of heroes they can run, you might not be allowed to run two of the same rare choice (no 2 treemen), you might not be able to take 300 points a magical gear... that sort of thing.
If your in the baby killers division, you'll be running the exact same list most of the league.

Anyhow, the ideas thread is ~5+ pages long, so now we are all just waiting on the league judges to post what they have decided on.

At any rate, if you only own 2,250 points worth of wood elves, it might be a good idea to spend some christmas money on another core unit or two.

There are quite a few of us who are regulars in that league (Me, Kurt, Tom, etc).  PM Bob (ghoulking) and try to get on the list.  IN the past, it has been capped at 20.  We were full last time but I know a few people are not playing this time, so there may be some space.  I know there is always a waiting list.

 Afro

REECIUS PIECE'CIUS !!! Excellent choice for an army, though it plays unlike any army in WFB, but I have sent you knowledge through magical means for your glorious path of destruction.

Why no 2 Treemen? All the people I have talked to for help on my list suggested two and I bought two (although I have yet to use them both, haha). Perhaps it is just my lack of experience, but my Treemen rarely do anything spectacular.

Are these restrictions arbitrary or is there a logic behind it? Most people who I have shown my list to say it is pretty run of the mill. I can understand if the rules are in place to preserve balance as Fantasy seems really out of balance compared to 40k at this point in time. I played Chaos Daemons in Fantasy against a hard core tourny list and it was the least fun I have ever had playing a war game. My opponent had 15 power dice at 1500 points. The guy who wrote that dex really should not be allowed anywhere near another one.

Here is the list I have settled on for 2,250, just let me know if this works or not as I have more models. I don't want to show up with a list and find out it is house ruled out of existence.

Lords:
Spellweaver: LV4, Dispell scrolls x 2, Caliangor's Stave
Noble: Wildrider Kindred, Dawnspear

Core:
Dryads x 8
Dryads x 8
Glade Guard x 10
Glade Guard x 10
Glade Riders x 5
Glade riders x 5

Special:
Wildriders x 5: Full Command
Wardancers x 8: Full Command
Wardancers x 8: Full Command

Rare:
Treeman

Thanks for the information guys.

Why no 2 Treemen?

For the same reason you can't field 2 giants of slaanesh, 2 skaven abominations, 2 steam tanks, or 2 hydras.
The league is a restricted build league, meaning that besides the 4 characters, 3+ core, 4 specials and 2 rares, the league is going to impose addition rules.

One of the much discussed rules for this upcoming league is you cannot take 3 of the same special choice, or two of the same rare.

That's just how the Sunday League has always worked out.  They put in additional rules to tone down all armies.

Hahaha, that means nothing to me! I have only played about 7 games so I honestly don't know if those units listed are good or not.

No big deal, as long as I know the rules in advance I will be fine. I pick stuff up quickly.

The guy who fielded that army should have been given a kick in the nuts!

There are combinations of things in fantasy that are just really really powerful and 2 Treemen are certainly one of them.

Idea behind the restricted league is to limit the use of these powercombos and lower the powerlevel of the game to mix it up and make more fun, and hopefully more fair.

Thanks
