Bretonnians break some core rules of the game itself.  Whole army gets a ward save, 3 models for a rank, all models in lance get to fight, extra character, can hide wizards in the middle of the unit, extra 2" charge on barded warhorses, retard powerful flying cavalry.  By playing the army the way it is intended, its all broken as hell.  The only way to balance the army is to purposely gimp yourself.

Vampires and Demon can be make "broken" as in made overly powerful by a clever player, but by their nature they do not break the basic rules of the game.  You have to push either of these armies to the extreme to break them, this is still quite easy to do of course.

Not I would not recommend Vamps, Demons or Tomb Kings to a new player either as they ignore big parts of the Psychology rules.

Of all the BS possible in this game, I still think that Bretonnians are the only army that should be removed.  They were overly powerful in 5th ed, when they were no where near as good as they are now.

I can't say I feel comfortable making a call on bannin' the Brets, but Kurt has the most experience amongst us in WFB (way more than me for sure Wink) and since we're amongst buddies I can strongly encourage all of us to not use Brets this run.

However, we'll be incorporatin' "Aaron's Exception", so trying out Brets in the beginning shouldn't be a prob.  Just make sure you're attackin' Joel and not Kurt.   Wink

I am not calling for Banning them, but as a starter army, I say to Bryan NO WAY.  Its gonna leave at very bad taste in his mouth.  I know of 2 people whos first army was Bretonnians and neither of them play anymore.  No one can argue that it is one, super cool looking army though.

Once Bryan has a feel for the game and understands how all phases of the game work, then he can try the Brets.  It really is gonna be better that way.

And I do speak from experience, my first 2 armies in 5th Ed, were Bretonnians and Tomb Kings.  TKs I just found boring, but the Brets were very breakable even then (and so much less powerful).

I am going to bring the almost painted wood elf army. I can be there on the 27th for sure. It will be nice to start playing again on a regular basis.

Amen to that! Grin

I'll keep the campaign pretty straightforward in design and post the details by Friday night.  Since this'll be our first WFB campaign together, I thought it'd be better to keep the design intuitive.  Move, attack, conquer or cry.

I gotta say though - the 5th ed 40k is lookin' mighty fine!  I'm determined to field a fully painted Dark Angels by the time we start early next year.

When did you get into Dark Angels?

As for 5th edition, I'm still getting used to it, but since I'm running the next 40k campaign, I may make the house rule that vehicle defensive weapons will be like 4th edition: S5 or less...  But that's a thread for another time and place...

I'll show up on Saturday (maybe) but not to play.  With my monthlong vacation in Oct, no point in starting the campaign.  I'll just join in when I return.

Jason your Dark Angels look great.

As for the 40k campaign I would suggest we do some playtesting using the old vehicle shooting rules before we incoporate the change.  I have played about 10 games of 5th edition now, and I will admit that vehicles have become very static and never move.  Killing vehicles by shooting is very difficult since there are now cover saves.  The best way to kill a vehicle is by charging and hitting rear armor.

Actually shooting in general has been seriously nerfed because everything gets a cover save for any little thing.  The abundance of cover saves and the absence of moving and shooting defensive weapons are my two main gripes of 5th edition.  Other than that everything seems very cool.

See you guys on the  27th

I got into DA after a couple of slams usin' me Sisters.  They were the first army I was attracted to waaaaaay back when I started, and the release of Blackreach and 5th ed seemed like a great time to start an army I could actually paint quickly.  Marines are soooooo much easier to paint.  These guys are all of 3 primary colors with no highlights (I airbrush) and some stains and tick marks.  Soooooo much easier. Wink

This whole squad was only 3 days of work.  Awesomeness!

My ladies have suffered the new Troop-infantry objective-taker conundrum.  I didn't want Marines with faith points, but would've had to make that list just to be competitive.  My Orks need a major restructure - so the DA seemed like a decent choice that I could get painted by our next 40k campaign.

WOW!   Shocked  Those are the black reach models??  With the exceptional paint job and cool poses, I never would've guessed.

(I airbrush) and some stains

Poop stains?  I thought Marines knew no fear....  Roll Eyes

Hey I saw Jason last night and mentioned Sat. start day, and he didn't know.  I told him to call Joel or Jason and he said he would.  You guys might want to call him anyways.

I'll be contacting Wade to see about his lizzies ...

How many points for Sat.? (as Joel already asked)

Yup Yup.

2250 is the norm.  Of course, as always, players can agree upon more or less.  2500 isn't a bad idea - WFB's game style is pretty adaptable to point changes.  However, 2250 was the amount discussed when we brought up the campaign months ago. Grin
